Baltic States...

  Here is a quick visit to the Baltic Republics of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Each has a long and rich history. If possible, arrange to stay a little bit longer than this itinerary offers.

Day 1   Arrive Tallinn (fly in or arrive by high speed catamaran ferry ride from Helsinki, Finland) Sightseeing tour of the city.
Day 2   Explore the city on your own.
Day 3   Depart for the summer city of Parnu, famous for its spas. Visit the harbour with its romantic piers. Overnight.
Day 4   Travel along the famous Via Baltica to Vilnius, Lithuania's capital.  Overnight.
Day 5   Morning excursion to the village of Trakai, home to the people of Karaite. Visit a medieval castle, located on a small island connected to the mainland by a picturesque bridge. Afternoon in Vilnius to get a close view of the historical monuments and famous sites including the Cathedral and the University.
Day 6   Continue to Kaunas, Lithuania's former capital.  Take  walking tour of the old town. After lunch, continue to Riga.
Day 7   Morning sightseeing tour of Riga's historic sights.  Visit the ethnographic open-air musuem, exhibiting the life and culture of Latvia.
Day 8   On the way to Tartu, cross the border in Valga, a divided city.  Part of the inhabitants live in Latvia and the rest in Estonia. Tartu is the oldest city and the scientific center of Estonia. Return to Tallinn for overnight.
